Pentago were the Landscape Architects for the Phase 1 Core Area which provides a series of tourism related projects to establish the Desaru Coast as a destination and provide quality benchmark for development. The initial work was to provide cohesive landscape identity and language for the development. Distinctive hardscape detailing and an overall softscape strategy provides a recognisable sense of place that is applied throughout the Desaru Coast. Whilst Pentago core area projects included the main infrastructure road network and the beach frontage, the heart of the Desaru Coast identity is achieved through landmark tourism projects including a water theme park and two international golf courses. Creating distinctive and compelling settings to the key tourism projects was the principle focus of our work. Pentago were involved in concept design through to detail implementation works for the Adventure Water Park, clubhouse facilities for both the Ocean and Valley golf courses, riverside retail village, Hard Rock Hotel, and Westin Hotel & Conference Center. For the Adventure water park, Pentago worked with creative theme park designers to develop a landscape identity to enhance the attractions. In addition, the design accommodates the safe movement of large amounts of people with the minimum maintenance of landscape materials and plants, concentrating on the edge treatments between land edges and water bodies.
