The Westin Resort in Langkawi, Malaysia, is part of Starwood Hotels and Resorts, one of the largest high-end hotel and resort brands. Its international reputation boasts for a contemporary, trendy environment among its two hundred rooms and suites, as well as its twenty private ocean view pool villas. Pentago was involved in creating a new landscape for the renovation and upgrading works of the resort. Utilising the existing viewlines and natural landscape, the landscape team maximised the space available facing the ocean, creating water-to-water views with the use of terraced gardens and Buchida trees which, when planted in groups, do not hinder the viewline. A low retaining wall was implemented on the cliff face to give access of the ocean view to different levels of the complex. Intimate gardens grace the inner sanctums of the many private villas and guest facilities, which also include private and outdoor spas. The use of local kampung plants such as lemongrass and pandan created an enveloping sensual scent, adding to the resort experience. The resort also features an infinity edge pool and bar which again captures the stunning tropical sunset view of its prime location.
